Every year, Redwood High School along with other schools across the country host a week widely known as Homecoming.

During this week, students across campus interact and participate in different activities such as dress up days, homecoming parades, and tie the week up with a football game and a homecoming queen.

This year however Redwood has changed to nominating both a homecoming king and queen, and as of now there will no longer be escorts. There will be nominations for the top five kings and top five queens as well.

After last year’s homecoming queen, there has been an overwhelming response from students around Redwood. This helps to bring an extra set of kids an opportunity to participate in events around Redwood.

“This is a great opportunity for us to see more senior faces out there, I’m excited to see five more students be highlighted on campus”. -Mrs. Aston

Brielle Alvarez ‘22 is the president of ASB this year and has been involved in the club all four years, being class president in her freshman and sophomore year, Inter-club commissioner her junior year.

Alvarez says that she really enjoys this new change to Homecoming week, as it “involves all the students, instead of just one specific area of students.” She goes on to say that she “genuinely like(s) this new change and can now be a tradition for Redwood”.

Kailee Rodriguez ’22 is in charge of this year’s homecoming revealing committee. Rodriguez says, “with things always changing, with masks on and off its been pretty difficult but we are trying our best to adjust and make it a better year for everyone”.

Jackson Marquez ’23 is Redwood’s 2021-2022 Inter-club Commissioner and is working in the announcing committee, and has been working hard for this year’s homecoming week.

Marquez says that this new change to homecoming nominations is a great addition, however, “It would have been a plus to be able to vote for gender neutral terms”. With that being said however, Marquez still says that this change is great with the school’s (students) voice being implemented in decisions.

The theme this year is, “the happiest homecoming on earth”, which will include various Disney inspired events such as dress up days, lunch time activities and more. The rally this year will be held virtually.

Homecoming week will be September 7-10th.

Luke Crawford ’22 is one of the first to be nominated for the title of Redwood’s Homecoming King. Crawford was nominated by FFA.

Luke Crawford continues by saying, “I am really excited, I think it will be a cool experience with the whole atmosphere, it should be fun!”
