The Redwood Track team is off to a great start, as they lace up their spikes for each meet. The runners have ran around and around the track, perfecting their times, the jumpers have reached new heights, and the throwers have gone further than before. Recently they competed at the Monarch Invitational at Exeter High School. Redwood took home many trophies and placed high many different events.

The meet was separated by big school and small school so Redwood had some great competition against other large schools in the Central Valley. Here are some overall results for Large School Division:

  • Jason Hruby: 1st in the 100m (V) – 11.29
  • Marisa Perez: 1st in 200m (V) – 27.12 (PR)
  • Jackie Ledesma: 4th in 200m (V) – 27.98 (PR)

Many new and improved PRs were made. Sprinter and jumper, Jason Hruby, ‘19, said, “We got sweepstakes for D1 boys and D1 girls. Overall, that meet was very good.”

Halle Arellano, ‘19, is a pole vaulter that works hard to do better at each meet she competes in. Arellano has been an avid track and field athlete since her freshman year. “I did pretty good. I hit my PR, which is 8 feet and 6 inches,” said Arellano.

This year, Redwood’s track and field team got a new coach, Mr. Roebuck. This means that there is a new program that athletes, like Arellano have had to adapt to. “The team has been doing really great, which is surprising because we have a completely different program this year,” said Arellano.

The Redwood track and field team is doing very well, despite changes in the head coach and the program. If you want to support the track and field team, the next meet will be at Mt. Whitney on Wednesday. They would love to see you there!
