On Friday February 4, 2022, it was announced that the Ranger Boys Wrestling team placed first in the West Yosemite League (WYL). This is something that they have been working towards all season.

Redwood won first place with 245.5 total points, and Hanford followed after with 232 points.
The boys had been working hard all season in hopes of accomplishing their goal of winning WYL.

According to Ezekiel Jaurrieta, ‘22, “The season is going good. It didn’t start out as well as I wanted but I started to pick it up [after]”.
The boys had many accomplishments this season that included getting 1st in the Highland High Invitational and 2nd in the Redwood Invitational.
The season began with a rocky start being that they had to halt practices and matches for a week due to exposure to COVID-19. However, they quickly got back at it and fought to climb the ranks into that top position in the league.

According to Blake Binning, ‘22, “I feel good that we are able to wrestle this year because last year was hard not being able to wrestle”. Jaurrieta added, “I’m very happy that we are able to have a season this year, especially since it’s my latest time wrestling at Redwood.”

Isaak Mendoza, ‘24 says, “I think we’re doing great, we just need to work on a couple things and then we’ll be great.”
With Covid, the team has gone through various struggles but were able to get back on their feet.

Mendoza describes how he feels the team has been doing this season as, “a rollercoaster of emotions, but as a team it has been pretty fun.”
