As of Thursday, November 18th, Joey Rico, Seth Lopez, Morgan Bradford, Michaela Brown, Reece Bueno, and Joey Volchko had officially become the newest collegiate athletes of Redwood High School.

All athletes being softball or baseball players will soon leave the fields of Redwood to play D1, D2, NAIA, or Juco next fall.

Joey Volchko ´23 signed with Stanford University to play D1 baseball. After being committed for just over 2 years, Volchko will be playing at the number 5 ranked baseball team in the NCAA. Being an attendant of the Pac-12 Conference.

Reece Bueno ´23 is now an official Mustang at the college of Cal Poly. Bueno ´23 will be playing D1 baseball alongside a team in the Big West Conference. Cal Poly baseball being ranked as number 2 in the Conference welcomes Buenos ´23 starting his college career in the spring of 2024.

Seth Lopez ´23 will be playing baseball at Cornell College. Lopez ´23 says, ¨I have been playing ever since I could pick up a bat, basically around four.¨ His love for baseball allowed Lopez ´23 to play here at Redwood all four years with two years of JV and 2 years of Varsity experience.

Lopez ´23 is excited to continue on his baseball journey throughout college and to face the adversity of the sport. Lopez ´23 describles the adversity and says, ¨You can feel super down on yourself and like your doing your absolute worse then the next moment you feel like your on top of the world.¨

Joey Rico ´23 is signed to play baseball at Westmont University. Rico ´23 says, ¨It really just allows me to get my mind off like regular life, so I can just go away to the baseball field and just hang out with my friends and do something that I love doing.¨

When chosing Westmont University, Rico ´23 says, ¨It was really about the coaching staff and what I saw, how I saw myself being able to play there in the first couple years. I also just liked the vibe on campus and juhst everything to do with the school.¨

Morgan Bradford ´23 will be attending Ottawa University where she will be playing NAIA softball. Bradford ´23 has played at Redwood all four years of her highschool career as a shortstop for the varsity team. She will be starting her college softball career apart of the KCAC conference next spring of 2024.

Michaela Brown ´23 will be playing D2 softball at Harding University. Brown ´23 has been playing sofball for 10 years all together and 4 years here at Redwood for varsity. Brown ´23 says, ¨My school is Chirstian based, it´s D2, it´s small, very like welcoming. Its in Arkansas so being far away from home and having a welcoming school is gonna be great.¨

Congragulations to the six signees of the 2023 class of Redwood High School. With one more season for each of the six in the spring, their highschool careers are soon coming to an end.
