As Redwood shifts back to an in-person learning environment, Redwood continues to renew the “Traditions we missed” theme starting with Homecoming week. 

This year however unlike previous years, Redwood High School is having both Homecoming King and Queen nominees making this year’s headcount a total of 10 seniors. 

Nominee, Daniel Padilla

Daniel Padilla

Daniel Padilla, ’22 is one of the first in the Top 5 for Redwood Homecoming King.

When making the Top 5, Padilla says, “I was kind of surprised because I had not expected to make the Top 5, but am really happy to have made the [it].”

Padilla was nominated by the newly established Fashion club.

Other than the Fashion club, Padilla is also involved in International Dance, CSF, and has an interest in Mock Trial.

Padilla looks forward to pictures, dress-up days, Friday’s football game, and the Homecoming King and Queen reveal.

Nominee, Jackson Ford

Jackson Ford

Jackson Ford, ’22 is another senior in this year’s running. Ford says, “It honestly took me by surprise, and I am really happy about it, it is really nice and cool.”

Ford was nominated by the Students Against Trafficking club. He explains the importance of this club, and how honored he is to have been nominated and to represent them.

Ford is also involved in CSF, FBLA, and has played for the soccer team his past three years.

“It feels good to know that a lot of people voted for me, and it’s cool getting all this support from people I have gone to high school with for all these years,” Ford expressed.

Ford is looking forward to going to the first in-person football game since COVID-19, and being part of the Homecoming court.

Nominee, Lucky Reyno

Lucky Reyno

Lucky Reyno, ‘22 is also a part of the first ever Top 5 for Redwood Homecoming King.

Reyno explained that the feeling of being nominated is, “great.” He adds, thank you to everyone who voted for me, and supported me.”

Nominated by ASB, this is Reyno’s first year in the class. Alongside this class, Reyno has been involved in extracurricular activities throughout Redwood, such as football, basketball and track.

Reyno says he is, “looking forward to the experience [he is] going to gain, the love and support, and finding new ways to improve [himself]- showing more personality than just looks.”

Nominee, Ethan Griffiths

Ethan Griffiths

Ethan Griffiths, ’22 is yet another to be in the running for Homecoming King.

Griffiths says that being nominated for this title, “feels pretty good, it’s pretty exciting.”

Griffiths was nominated by one of Redwood’s new clubs, the Coffee club. Outside of Coffee club, Griffiths is a part of Varsity football, track, and is as well a member of CSF and Key club.

Griffiths expressed that Homecoming King has been a goal of his, and is looking forward to dress-up days, especially Cowboys vs. Aliens day. 

Eczequiel Jaurrieta

Eczequiel Jaurrieta, ‘22 is the last of the 5 to be running for the Homecoming King title.

Jaurrieta was nominated by the Fitness club despite it only being his first year in the club, and is also on the wrestling team where he is a four-year varsity wrestler.

Outside of these clubs and teams, Jaurrieta has been involved in ASB for two years, a DJ for the previous football games, and one of this year’s flag runners.

Jaurrieta says that, “it’s a really good feeling, the atmosphere at this school is really fun, so this should be exciting.”

When hearing about this year’s addition to Homecoming with the spot of Homecoming King, Jaurrieta was, “excited and [it] was something [he] was looking forward to.”

Jaurrieta has been very excited for all of the various dress-up days, and says he has them all planned out and ready.

Both Homecoming King and Queen will be revealed during half time at tomorrow’s football game, which will start in the Mineral King Bowl at 7:30 pm.

Voting will open tomorrow morning.
