On March 12, Redwood Varsity Softball played Sanger and pulled through scoring thirteen runs on the opposing team with the final score of 13-1.
Throughout the game, Emily Hernandez ’19, played her best at first base. As a team, Hernandez feels like they have finally come together. Hernandez hit some home runs to help get some points for the team. “We had some really good plays and well-timed hits” says Hernandez as she reflects on the game. She feels as if the team has had a rocky start because they’re a younger team “but we’re generating a lot of good hits.”
Hailey Smithson ’21, is a first time player on varsity who normally plays outfield and second base. Smithson was excited that the team was able to win just in time to start league. “Everyone’s hitting was on fire” and the best part was the home runs Hernandez brought in. Smithson feels like the team has improved a lot, “We were all kind of down on ourselves and thinking we couldn’t do good, but now we’re finally coming together and playing as a team.” She is ready for the rest of the season and hopes they keep up their spirit.
Prya Burns ’19, says they have all been taking better time and focusing on their hitting. “Defense has also been doing really well, [we’ve] just kept improving since the beginning of the year.”
Next week, the team plays on March 22 against Lemoore. Come support the girls as they play their first game in league.
