All Redwood students use the bridge at one point, and I am sure we all can agree that it is not the most convenient way of getting from place to place, so this issue is elaborated in this opinionated piece about Redwood students’ biggest pet peeves about the bridge.
By: Emma Largoza & Fabian Anguiano
How is it inconvenient for Devin Kirby, ’25 herself? “It’s mostly the spacing. I get to class on time but I wish I didn’t have to rush over the bridge trying to run across.”

What actions does Kirby think Redwood should take regarding the issue? “I think if they can, they should probably expand the bridge or maybe try to open up under the bridge more to people, giving out more bridge passes.”
Isaiah Smith, ’27, shares his current opinion about the bridge at Redwood. “It’s very cool, but it could use a bit of expansion so then more people can fit and to walk across, and less stuff can be thrown out there like milk cartons and stuff. The bottom of the bridge should also definitely be open, because with it being as it is right now it’s not really gonna help with how many people are really gonna have to go through [Sierra Vista] all the way back to main for their classes, and half of the time I think it could use a little fixing up a bit.”

Is it in any way inconvenient for Smith? “Not really, because I have two of my classes here on Vista, and then I have the rest of my classes on main so it’s not really that bad. But for other people I think it is because most people spend half of their periods here and others just spend their other classes on main where they don’t have to walk across the bridge.”
“I just think that the bridge can be more accessible, if it could expand out a bit for more people to cross, and the bottom of the bridge can be open too in case if the bridge is already full and people are walking across, then they should open the gate and let some people walk under the bridge and then they won’t have to worry about walking up the steps and waiting,” said Smith.
Smith had one last thing to say, “It could use a little bit of fixing up.”

Jack Conn, ’26, shares his current opinion about the bridge, “You know what, man, I don’t really like it.”
How does Conn think the bridge affects the kids at Redwood? “I think it makes kids tardy sometimes, it’s a longer process of crossing campuses.”
What would Conn do himself to solve this issue? “I’d probably just get a cross guard or somebody out there and help the kids cross the street to Vista.”
Cami Villacreses, ’28, shares her current opinion about the bridge, “I really hate the bridge. I only have to go over it twice because I have first and second on Vista, but going up and down the bridge is not fun because it hurts my shins.”

“I feel like when I go up the stairs people are too close to me and it makes me uncomfortable when they’re too close to me,” said Villacreses.
Does Villacreses think there is any way the Admin can fix this issue? “I think that admin should just let people go under the bridge so we can go to class faster and get fewer tardies, and hopefully the school day can be shorter if we have shorter passing periods so we can go home earlier. They can do a better job of organzing schedules so it won’t be so crowded.”
What would Villacreses do herself to fix this issue? “Let people go under the bridge.”
