Parker Chalabian ’19, is participating in his fourth musical at Redwood High School. He will be playing the jester in this year’s play, Once Upon a Mattress.

To prepare for his audition, Chalabian worked really hard to get on the show. “I did research on the show to try and do the character as best as I could,” Chalabian mentioned. When Chalabian received the role, he was excited to have such an important part role for his last year at Redwood. He was thrilled that he could accomplish so much throughout his four years.

The play has been worked on for many months. Chalabian has been working very hard on the show. His role includes dancing, which he says he is not great at. “I have really been working on my choreography,” Chalabian says, demonstrating his dedication the theater. The play is based on princess and the pea, but “it’s a really funny show, and there are a lot of gags and fun stuff.”

This is Chalabian’s last year in the Redwood plays. When asked about how he feels participating in his last drama event, Chalabian said, “It’s really sad because I have been doing plays since my freshman year… I won’t ever be in the LJ Theater again.” As a four year actor, Chalabian leaves the idea to “Work hard and have fun no matter what role you have,” to future leads in Redwood plays.

Once Upon A Mattress has been worked on diligently by all the actors and crew and will be presented at LJ Williams Theater. It opens on February 21, at 7 PM and other dates are February 22 and 23. Come support the actors and we’ll see you there.
