Tonight, coming off a big 4-1 win against WYL opponent Hanford High, the Redwood women’s soccer team takes on El Diamante at 6 o’clock in the Mineral King Bowl.

With Wednesday’s game marking a significant win in the Redwood Women’s soccer season even more people are expected to be coming into tonight’s highly anticipated match up against, cross town rival, El Diamante. Redwood’s win on Wednesday included 4 goals, 3 assists, and 3 saves tallied amongst the girls. This collective team effort helped push Redwood into the double digit win column, posting an undefeated 10-0-2 record. Talking to a few of the athletes, they had some thoughts on the win and what it means going forward.

Star Midfielder, Ellie Gilbert had to say “Coming off the win from Hanford, we’re feeling confident and one step ahead of last season, since we weren’t able to pull out a win against them.”

Goalie Olivia Saenz mentioned similar thoughts and how the win served to improve the already up beat nature of the girls team chemistry. Olivia also mentioned that “there is tension coming into this game because we know how badly El D wants to beat us, we just have to want it more.”

In asking Ellie similar questions, she stated “neither of us have lost in league yet, so there is definitely increased tension with the first seed being on the line.”

To gain a little more insight as to what to expect, I asked the girls what they found El D’s strong suit to be in their game.

Ellie mentioned the new addition of an El D freshman, Jackie Saechao. This hyperactive scorer is met with her toughest match yet seeing as the Redwood girls Defensive line has been arguably their biggest asset all year long with the mid fielders working hard to hopefully stop any big plays before they can occur.

Some players to watch for tonight would be forward Paityn Bruce, who continues to score like no other, as well as the girls defensive line who will serve as a big piece in their pursuit of victory.

All in all, a very exciting match up tonight with a lot on the line for both teams involved and the girls would love to see you out there!
