Coming off a close win against Hanford High, the Redwood Women’s soccer team has a chance to seize  a WYL title with a win against El Diamante tonight at 6 o’clock at El Diamante.

Coming into this game, the El D girls soccer team has only lost 1 game in league play with it being to the Rangers. With this game having so much on the line, tension is bound to build up in high anticipation for this matchup.

Freshman Addi Beal explains how different last game was compared to this upcoming one.

Beal says, “we practiced like normal but we definitely kept in mind that we need this win to stay undefeated and win WYL” Addi also stated that “last time we played a bit hectic and struggled staying calm like we usually do so if we just stay calm and finish our shots then we have a good shot at winning.”

Ellie Gilbert ‘24 says, “we have the upper edge however, we still know that this could go either way.” Ellie also had to say that even with this being the most important game of their season up to this point, “we should treat this like any other game because we always have to keep in mind that anything could happen. With that being said, our intensity will be brought on just like we have in our previous games.”

Mckenna Cook ’22 mentioned that “the keys to winning this game will be having a strong back line and playing quick on offense in order to score fast and quickly in order to start the game off strong.”

Kenna being one of the strongest defensive players will most certainly have a big impact on this aspect of the game. Kenna also mentioned, “Coming into this 2nd game after playing them already we focused on our offensive runs in order to beat their sub par defense.”

While midfielder Ellie Gilbert ‘24 had a great game against Golden West with 2 goals and assisted 2 goals she says, “Some players to look out for in this game are Leah See, and the new freshman being brought up, Lexi Rico and Sawyer Espinoza.”

Gilbert’s performance led her to being nominated for Tulare County Athlete of the week on the Visalia Times Delta. You can vote for Ellie using the link below! And catch the game at 6 o’clock at El Diamante High School.
