Friday, August 12th, Redwood’s volleyball team scrimmaged Cenntenial High School located at Ridgeview Middle School.
Devyn Castaneda ‘24 says the scrimmage, “…felt amazing, our potential is so good. I love all of the girls on the team and would love to keep bonding.”
With the new season approaching, there has been some changes that the Varsity team has been working to improve. Ashlyn Guenter ‘24 says, “With half of our team new to varsity most of us have never played together before.”
The time and effort that all of these ladies have contributed is starting to pay off. Morgan Castaneda ‘23 says, “Considering we have had practices all summer—sometimes twice a day or 3 hours at a time—we have had plenty of time to work together and adjust to our individual and team’s needs when it comes to playing.”
Audrey Hyde ‘24 also agrees with Morgan Castaneda, saying, “Coming from different clubs and class grades, summer training has allowed us to come together and work cohesively.”
When asked what can be improved on, Kennedy Cutler ‘24 says, “I feel like we can work on more team bonding. We all work really well together and are friends but we can work on being better teammates. I believe the best teams are the ones who have the most connection.”
Continuing with teammates, Morgan Castaneda also says, “It’s very important to me that everyone feels included when on and off the court, and I think that’s almost more important than the skills when playing!”
The girls prioritize the meaning of sportsmanship and relationships between each other. The support each of them have for each other is what they want to continue in order to create a stronger team.
Hyde says, “Even though we can’t be in our own gym, the team loves student support. It makes everything more fun and helps support the volleyball program. Cutler also says, “Go follow the Redwood Volleyball Instagram account (@rhs_vb).”
