Last Friday, Redwood High School announced the winners of its annual Homecoming King and Queen titles during halftime at the homecoming football game. This year’s honorees were Elle Pinheiro, ’26, nominated by the California Scholarship Federation (CSF), and Nathan Delgado, ’26, nominated by Choir.

Each year, various student organizations at Redwood are invited to nominate candidates who reflect the values and contributions of their respective clubs. The CSF club, which emphasizes academic achievement and community service, selected Pinheiro as its nominee. Choir, known for its involvement in school events and artistic expression, nominated Delgado.

The selection process involves a school-wide vote, allowing students to choose from among the nominees presented by participating clubs. The results reflect the student body’s recognition of individuals who demonstrate leadership, involvement, and school spirit.

Mr. Carrillo, choir director, says, ”Nathan has a great character, he has a great connection with all the kids in the class, and obviously with all of Redwood since he was Homecoming king, and Elle is the same way. They are also genuine in their dealing with others, teachers, and the community, and that’s not common being genuine.”

Both Pinheiro and Delgado have been active members of their clubs and have participated in a range of school activities. Their nominations and subsequent wins highlight the role that student organizations play in shaping campus culture and celebrating student achievement.

Mrs. Vieira, CSF advisor, says, “I think Elle just embodies so much of what it means to be not just a good student but a ranger. She is just the kindest, sweetest soul. She’s in drama, CSF, choir, a model student, and kind to everyone. When you look at who you want students to be, Elle just embodies that, and I was proud to be able to nominate her to represent not just CSF but Redwood as Homecoming queen.

The announcement was met with enthusiastic support from the crowd, marking a memorable moment in the evening’s festivities. The recognition of nominees from CSF and Choir also underscored the diversity of student leadership across academic and extracurricular spheres.

“Elle brings a energy that is unique, Elle is a unique girl in so many different ways. You know she’s a drama kid, so she shines on stage if you’ve ever seen her in the musical. She’s fantastic, and that persona she just exudes as the leader of CSF.” Says, Mrs. Vieira.

As Redwood continues its tradition of student-led nominations for homecoming royalty, the involvement of clubs like CSF and Choir reinforces the importance of community, collaboration, and student voice in school celebrations.

Mr.Carrillo says, “They’re great leaders, musicians, and they’re just great people, fun to be around, they don’t take themselves too seriously, they’re able to laugh at themselves when they make errors, and are just neat people to be around.”
