With the football season ending, there was a lot of tension around this year’s Cowhide game because Redwood is on the home side. The Cowhide visitors’ curse has been around from 21-24, going unbroken, but has been here long before that. The curse is essentially rumored to affect the visitors’ side wins and the Home side’s losses.

Jaxson Franks, ’27, Varsity Football player, says, “I think this year is the year we finally break it, with the team we have, how we’ve been playing, and how seriously we’re taking this game.”
Although visitors win most often, that doesn’t mean they can’t lose. There have been many instances where the “Curse” has been broken, and this year is one of them. Which is why many believe it’s just a coincidence.
Redwood’s football team went into the game with high hopes and planned on playing their best.
Franks says, “I’m your superstitious person, and it’s been a weird thing, but we know what we can do and we are gonna give it our all so this year [It doesn’t happen]”

This season, Redwood’s Varsity football is 8-2 and the first in their league. In comparison, Mt. Whitney’s Varsity Football has had a not-so-good season. Mt. Whitney is 1-9 and is the fifth in their league.
Brody Preisendorf, ‘25, Varsity Football player, says, “[Mt. Whitney has a chance at winning Cowhide] From a football standpoint, so you have to play your hardest, making sure that they don’t win, and you have to take them seriously.”
