The Redwood baseball team is excited to kick off their 2022 season. They’re coming back, more ready than ever after losing WYL to El Diamante and winning their first playoff game to Clovis North in last year’s season.

This season should be vastly different compared to last season, which was filled with many COVID-19 difficulties. Ty Potts, ‘23 says, “Last year we weren’t even able to practice until late January or so which put us at a severe disadvantage compared to schools in pretty much every other school district that was able to practice in the fall.”

Despite the setback shown last year, the boys are eager to succeed this season. Reece Bueno ‘23 says, “The two main goals for the season is to firstly win WYL and then make it to the D1 playoffs to win Valley. Plain and simple, that’s what we want.”

Daniel Parker, ‘22 says, “An obvious goal is to win WYL after a disappointing season last year” but Parker feels that they have pulled their game together this year.

He adds, “We definitely have our mind on surprising a lot of people and winning valley.”

The boys have a common attitude for the upcoming season. There seems to be much potential in this group, and much potential in reaching their goals.

In part of reaching these goals, Bueno says, “Our coaches have been tough on us this year in a positive way which has allowed us to become stronger as a team. After weeks of conditioning and doing the little stuff our team is more prepared than ever.”

Potts has a similar outlook to how the team is preparing. Potts says, “As a team we’ve been focusing on our small ball game to minimize our mistakes come game time. Our team as individuals works really hard outside of practice as well to give ourselves the best chance to put our best version of ourselves out there.”
