Cowhide is one of the biggest events during the school year. Along with the Cowhide game comes a hype rally.

For the 2019-2020 year, Christine Santos, ‘20, holds the title as rally commisioner. Raller commisioner consists of organizing and putting together the rallies. Santos described getting ready for the rally as “adrenaline rushing but it’s great.” She added that this rally wasn’t very stressful because of the help from her committee and former rally commissioner Savannah Travis, ‘20.

The rally opens up with a cowhide video that was put together by the video class. Following the opening video, Jada Griffith ‘20, ASB president, and Josh Gilcrest ‘20, ASB vice president, came out introducing Mr. Ranger.

Choir then performed the National Anthem, followed by band performing the alma mater.

After the hosts of the rally introduced each class and two commercials by Video we’re shown, Varsity head coach, Kevin Scharton introduced the first 20 players by their jersey number. Each player then placed a glow stick around Scharton’s podium tracing a Cowhide.

After the intoductions, hip hop was the first dance group to preform. Then, the next 20 varsity players were introduced to the crowd.

A Snikers and Mountain Dew commercial were then shown, followed by 20 more players.

Then cheer took centerstage and led a cheer towards the football team. Following their shout out, they also performed a routine.

Captain and 4 year cheerleader, Mya Ables, ‘20, said, “we prepared for the performance by practicing everyday 5-7.” Ables said that she helped her teammates by making sure each girl knew the routine for their last rally of the football season.

Following this performance, a Pepsi and Bang commericial is shown. Then Scharton introduced the last twenty players and went into his speech.

Scharton said, “Our student body, our fans are the best in the valley. When we walk out on the field on Friday nights, it is amazing.”

Brian Rangel, ’20, and Aaron Garcia, ‘20, presented their captain speeches to the crowd. Garcia said, “This year we had a pretty good season and we still got a lot more to go, we are 8-1 and tonight we are going to go out and give it our all.”

Another Captain, Hudson Walker, ‘20, said that he is going to miss playing for Redwood. “I think the energy from the rally is going to roll over into the game because of the spirit everyone had is going to boost our confidence.”

After the speeches, Dance Force performed then ASB led the four captains in a game of “Kiss and Tell.” The captains’ moms came out and suprised the boys with a kiss on the cheek.

The seniors of the team then went out and showed a performance of their own as a tradition throughout the years.

Samuel Olson, ‘20, the last of the four captains, said that this rally was a bittersweet moment, “ASB worked really hard on the rally and it showed. I am sad that this is my last cowhide but it is going to be a good game.” Olson and Garcia’s favorite part of the rally was the senior dance.

The dance was followed by a gatorade commercial and a rap video of Gavin Lange, Nate Marroquin, Quinton Johnson, Brayden Herrera, and Dominick McCormack.

The rally came to a close as the school principal, Mr. Shin, closed with some words of wisdom for the players and for the school.
