The Drama program is a big part of Redwood culture. Many students love it so much they continue with the program from their freshman year all the way to their senior year.
Ty Olson ‘23 has done 4 years of drama, the musical and 3 years of the fall play. Olson is a technician.
Atraya Serrato ‘23 has done 4 years of Drama and helped out on shows throughout the years.
Olson says that the drama department impacted him because “freshman year [he] was in a social bubble with very few people and drama helped [him] break out of that circle and expand a little more.”
Serrato says that the drama department has helped her “mold more into who” she is. She feels more comfortable with “being able to go out and say ‘Hey I’m me’ and not really care about what people think anymore.”
Olson says that his favorite memories come from the Fall Play and the One Acts.
Serrato adds that her favorite Drama memories also come from last year’s One Acts. “It was so much fun, we got to see everybody.”
The One Acts are where “all the drama classes come together for a student show. The seniors are in charge so they do casting, they do everything and then from there we all perform it in the span of like three days” according to Serrato.
Serrato says she really enjoys writing. Serrato’s script was chosen to be in the One Acts for the freshmen. She adds “I got to see them do it and it was amazing.”
Olson enjoys working behind the scenes. Last year Olson was working with the sound effects for the Fall Play. “I did the gunshot for the BB gun and the music for the Fall Play.” Olson adds that for the musical he was a part of the “backstage crew which is moving sets.”
Drama makes a big impact on the Redwood students.
