With the elections last Friday, August 30th, the results were announced on Tuesday, September 3rd, and the winners of the Freshman Elections is Alyssa Sozinho for President and Jackson Marquiez for Vice President. The two runners up were Lexi Ellis for President and Zion Lange for Vice. The Freshman President holds the responsibility of being the voice of the Freshman class.
Mrs. Aston, the Activities Director is expecting the Freshman President to “make the Freshman class feel like they are a part of this school through and through no matter their age.” Being the Freshman President is a big responsibility, he or she must attend class everyday, and attend every ASB event. Candidates who ran and did not win, will still have a chance to be an ASB commissioner.
Alyssa Sozinho ’23 was the winner of the Freshman President. Sozinho is a cheerleader and is also a part of the ASB decorating committee. She sees being the Freshman President as an opportunity to “inspire and include the freshman class”. Her first idea was a hit, she started the Ranger pump up last Friday morning, on August 30th, before the football game and she has more ideas to come. Sozinho believes that she is a great listener when it comes to her peers opinions and she is happy to be there voice. She has a lot of school spirit when it comes to Redwood and cheerleading helps her express that. Sozinho is inspired by two people to become the Freshman President, Adrienne Terry and Stacy Galvan. These two inspiring leaders help her thrive to become the greatest self she can be. She is thrilled to be Freshman President.
Jackson Marquiez 23′ was the winner of the Freshman Vice President. Marquiez is planning to be a part of Spy Club, Ultimate Frisbee Club, Track and Golf in the spring. He wants to “help the school out, make it great and help maintain it.” Marquiez was inspired by his parents and his friends to run for Freshman Vice President. He sees being the Vice President as an opportunity to “become a stronger more independent person”. This will be an exciting new year with Marquiez as Freshman Vice President this year.
The new President and Vice President for the 2019/2020 school year are excited to start making their ideas a reality and to make a lasting impact on our Freshman class!
