Redwood’s buff ball champions the “Soft Servers”, were in for a surprise when El Diamante’s “The Dirty J’s” challenged them to a Buff Ball match.

James Richardson ‘22, says “There were some jokes about it [happening] in the very beginning of buff ball that I’ve heard about.”

Continuing with “Now that it’s actually happening I was like ‘What in the world?’ It’s kinda interesting.”

One of the coaches, Keira Griffiths ‘23, says that the way this game came to be was “they antagonized our players Albie Batchman and Jayce Ford through instagram”

Because of this the team does not want to lose.

The other coach of the Soft Server, Paityn Bruce ‘24, says “we have started practicing and preparing for the game. Everyone has been working hard because they wanna beat The Dirty J’s.”

Albie Batchman ‘23 says “I think we are definitely prepared to kick some El D butt”

Richardson says “We always do our best, work hard and stay positive. It’ll be a fun time nonetheless”

Bruce also says that for this game they “[got] a new player who is definitely gonna be able to help our team out greatly!!”

Added that the new player is “Kolby Howard!”

Kolby Howard ‘22 says he “joined [the team] after they won the redwood tournament and decided to schedule a game with El D.”

Howard also says he “feel[s] pretty confident. [He] think[s] we are well prepared and it will be a good competition between two competitive school[s].”

Griffiths says that she “plan[s] on just focusing on winning because we are sort of rivals and have had a lot of good competition in the past”

Batchman also says that he thinks “it is very cool that the two schools are coming together to hold a friendly competition”

Richardson says “you gotta ‘Go for Redwood!’”

Date and time for this event have yet to be determined. Stay tuned to the Gigantea for updates.
