Rose Candaleria ‘23 is a violin player here at Redwood who is going to attend Cal Poly after highschool as a possible double major in music and pre-med.

Candelaria has a heavy passion for music, she says, “I’ve always wanted to keep music in everything that I do so I plan to just go as far as I can with it to maybe get a lot more professional experience and exposure.”

“It was obvious that I really loved music so I decided from that point on I wanted to major in it and that kind of made it easier for me because it was something I was already comfortable with,” says Candelaria.

When asked about who her biggest supporters are she says, “My parents because they’ve always encouraged me to pursue my interests and to always push me to get a higher education.”

Going hand in hand with her biggest supporters Candelaria says her biggest motivator, “would be them (her parents) and kind of my own longing to just be happy and fulfilled with everything that I do.”

Candelaria’s decision to commit to music came to her pretty recently as she says she knew, “The first semester of senior year. I kind of floated around a bit with ideas of what I could possibly be doing, [and] It just became really clear around that area and [at] that time that I was really good at this and I wanted to be even better.”

Even after she finishes her education she says, “I plan to incorporate it into my life as much as possible even if it is part of a career choice.”

When she committed to music and made her plans for college she says, “It was a really fun decision, I have already met a lot of the music educators at Cal Poly and it seems like it’s going to be a really fun experience.”
