Every year, Redwood High School has auditions for the International Dance team. During the process, girls from grades 10th to 12th have the opportunity to get involved and try out many different types of dances from all around the world. The judges are the dance teachers themselves, Mrs. Lapp and Mrs. Bardonnex.
Making the international dance team means that they get to dance during the assemblies we have here at Redwood. One of the new international dance team members is Isabella Galaviz, ’22. Galaviz, ” I feel like it’s going to be a really great opportunity, even as I’m going to be a sophomore dancing with all my older friends.” Being in international or just dance is a great experience, because you get to perform during assemblies and perform for the spring dance show we have here.
Making international is just another step in the dance department. People audition and some make it and some don’t, but it’s okay. Practice only makes perfect. Alexia Guzman, ’21, says “I’m really happy about making international, I tried out for sophomore year, but I didn’t make it.” The auditions are a two day process where you have to memorize the dance to the best of your ability, then the next day perform and be able to freestyle also.
Not only did girls audition but guys had the chance to be in the class and be partners for the girls in all the group dances. The process was slightly easier for the guys because as long as they had high energy and spirit and just have fun, then they had a good chance of making it in.
International is a great opportunity to have because you’ll meet new friends and be in a new environment. Every year the dance teachers put together a spring dance show, which happens to include the international dance team.
