Here at Redwood High School, there is a trip that happens almost every late summer to experience a new culture and world art. 3D Art teacher, Mrs. Yates, has an opportunity to go as the program’s leader and can take other students on these scenic trips. This years trip is to Peru!

The initial cost for the trip is just a little under 4,000 dollars. Although that may seem like a lot of money Yates explains what will be paid for, “… cost includes your flight, meals, tour guide, transportation within the country, and so forth”.

Yates also said what are the purposes of going, “You get three units of college credits, exploring a new place, learning about another culture, it opens your eyes to other places in the world, and it makes you really appreciate home!” Meetings for this trip have not been set but any questions concerning the trip, contact Yates anytime in her classroom, room P3 on Sierra Vista Campus.

The schedule for the trip is an exiting 9 days:

Day 1 is in Lima, to check into your hotel and to meet the tour guide.

Day 2 is discovering the Lima landmarks, you will be sightseeing the Government palace, San Francisco Convent visit, Plaza de Armas, Cathedral of Lima visit, and Museo Larco Visit.

Day 3 is in Lima and Cusco, you will be flying to Cusco and have a guided sightseeing tour to see, Koricancha Temple visit, Sacsayhuamán Fortress visit, and Cusco Cathedral visit.

Day 4 is in Cusco and the Sacred Valley, exploring the Písac and Ollantaytambo visit, LEAP Peruvian school visit, and the LEAP Pago A La Tierra.

Day 5 is in the Sacred Valley and in Cusco, you will take a train ride to Machu Picchu and explore, and transfer back to Cuzco by train.

Day 6 is in Cusco and Puerto Maldonado where you will be flying to Puerto Maldonado, travel by motorized canoe into the jungle, and do an interpretive jungle walk.

Day 7 is in Puerto Maldonado, where you will go to the Ox Bow lake Sanctuary.

Day 8 is the end of the tour, you will fly back to Lima and then fly back home.

On the final day 9 you will be returning home. Yates encourages people to go and experience new things!
