Homecoming here at Redwood High School is a big part of the high school culture and tradition. It’s a time where the entire school gets to start the football season and where the school gets to show the most spirit.

Students can’t wait to show up and rep the Redwood spirit. Emily Silva, ’21, said, “Yes [I am looking forward to homecoming]. [My favorite part] would have to be the football game and when they reveal who wins homecoming queen.”

To announce this year’s Homecoming theme, Ms. Aguilar, World History teacher & ASB adviser, said, “This year’s Homecoming theme is All Roads Lead to Redwood! We are emphasizing famous roads and destinations around the country.”

The Homecoming dress up days start on September 10th and continue through the 14th. Monday kicks off with Hollywood Blvd, The “Red Carpet”; with Seniors in red, Juniors in purple, Sophomores in yellow, and Freshman in Orange. Tuesday is Beach Boardwalk so be sure to wear your sunscreen and best beach attire. Wednesday takes a trip down Route 66 so kick on those cowboy boots and some country western attire. Thursday is a trip to Disneyland Drive so plan to wear Disney / Pixar attire. Friday is Spirit Lane so be sure to wear your Ranger gear!

The theme for this year’s homecoming was not all easy to come up with. While all the students have great ideas, there can only be one theme. Aguilar said, “We like to keep the themes as fun and broad as we can so that way it is easier and the clubs have a variety of options when making their floats.”

Along with the dress up days, Homecoming Week comes with lunch time activities held in the quad. Aguilar said, “The lunch time activities are still in the works but we mainly focus on The Great Race, which will be held on Thursday”.

With the time crunch of Homecoming being early this year, ASB students had to adjust and work together to plan everything out. Makenna Haskill, Senior Class President, said, “Even though homecoming week may not be perfect, I feel that ASB worked really hard with the time frame that we had, and we hope everyone enjoys this amazing week!” With everyone working hard and fast, preparations and were made under a timely manner.  Tania Jiroudi, ’19, said, “Teamwork has changed due to the time crunch because we had less time to plan things and collaborate so sometimes we have to make executive decisions. But we still made sure to maintain the family aspect of ASB and continue to be positive under pressure.”

Homecoming is a time for all students and clubs to dress up, have fun, and rep that Redwood pride! Don’t forget to dress up starting Monday September 10th and to support the football team on Friday September 14th.
