New bio teacher Mr. Rojas expresses his thoughts on his first year of teaching at Redwood.

As the new school year begins, new teachers have also been added to the Redwood High School Staff. A new found Biology teacher, Mr Rojas is a part of this new group of teachers.

Coming to a new school and territory comes with a lot of worries. Mr. Rojas says, “It’s my first year as having my own responsibilities and pressure to deal with situations for the first time.”

A new environment creates new experiences that come with it. “I definitely like this school culture and for having around 2000 students it feels like a smaller community,” says Rojas.

He adds, “Whenever I go anywhere I see so many students so it’s nice to be connected.”

Mr. Rojas has been teaching for only two years. One year as a student teacher, this is first real year teaching high school students by himself.

“Technically this is my first year [teaching] but I consider last year as a really good experience for teaching as a student teacher,” Rojas says. He has learned a lot of new things and is continually learning about his students and what’s right and wrong.

“After this first month I know that if this happens I do this and if this happens I do this. It’s just constantly adding to my library,” Rojas says.

A new school brings up new traditions to learn of. A friend of Mr. Rojas shared the chaos and competitiveness of cowhide week which brought excitement to him.

“I am looking forward to that week, cowhide….I like trying new things,” says Rojas.
