Every year Mrs.Lapp and Mrs.Bardonnex, the dance teachers at Redwood, hold auditions where students can be placed in their respective dance classes.
Their classes on campus include; Dance Force, International Dance, Hip Hop, Advanced Dance, Intermediate dance and Intro to Dance.
Sadie Hemphill, class of ‘25, auditioned for Dance Force and made the team.
Dance Force is the highest skilled dance group at Redwood and performs at football games, performs at the Dance show, and much more.
Hemphill says that making dance force makes her “really excited” and that “(she is) really glad [her] hard work paid off.”
She says, “(she’s) really scared for auditions. It was really intimidating but [she] think[s] [she] prepared well.”
As well as saying she was “very excited” about making dance force, saying she “ran out of bed and [they] started jumping up and down.”
She hopes to “have a lot of fun.”
Another dance class available at Redwood is International Dance.
In International Dance, students including both boys and girls, dance together doing many different tricks and fun dances.
Jordan Nelsen, ‘23, and Bella Tanck, ‘23, both auditioned for the class and were given a spot for next year.
Nelson says that during audition he “was kind of nervous.”
He says, “[I] was surprised because I got there and I didn’t really know what we were supposed to do. But it all worked out.” Adding that he is “looking forward to having a good time dancing and being with my friends”
Tanck says she is “so so excited” about making International.
She is most looking forward to “dancing with [her] friends”
She is hoping to “have a lot of fun” in the class.
Matthew Batelo ‘24, made Advanced Dance.
Saying that he “is proud of himself” for securing a spot.
Adding that he “practiced a lot” so he could make it.
He says he’s “really happy” that he made the class.
Carly Jensen ‘24, got a spot in Redwood’s Hip Hop class.
Jensen says that she “was a little nervous because they had just learned the routine the day before, but it was still exciting”
Adding that she “was really surprised” and that she “wasn’t expecting it”
She is super excited to “meet new people and learn more about hip hop”
Her goals are to “have fun and live in the moment”
