Just a few weeks ago was the Moscow Nutcracker Ballet. The show was significant , dancers all over Tulare county auditioned to be a part of something exciting and new. The performance was held at the Fox Theatre on November 7th.
Some students at Redwood starred in the show!
One of the performers was Brynlee Rasmussen ’22, she attends the Dance Arts studio in Visalia. She decided to auditioned for the play and was able to obtain a part. Rasmussen explains, “They taught us a little combo and it was only like 15 seconds and then we did it like 3 times, then we performed it for her.” She expresses that the auditions were simple and quick. Many girls attended the auditioned and about 4 or 5 dance studios were present. The show gave a big opportunity for girls all ages to dance for a big professional company. “The production took about 5 weeks”, Rasummen says.
Student Hannah Lanting ’22 was another dancer in the play. She played as the Spanish chocolate. In her opinion, she said,” About 100 people showed up and we were divided into three groups by age, we did about three different dance combinations and the director pulled out the girls she wants for the part”. She explained hoe the company is based from Russia as they tours the U. S during the holidays to perform the Nutcracker with their professional dancers. They use local dancers for group, trio, and duo dances.
The show was a good advantage for local dancers to be a part of a professional production. The performance was an overall success and an amazing opportunity for dancers to show their talent as well as their passion for dance.
