Alyssa Hernandez, ’24, is one of the captains of women’s varsity soccer. Hernandez says, “I love being able to help guide the girls and work together to stay focused and achieve our goals for the season.”

Hernandez recently had surgery so she isn’t quite sure if she’ll be able to play this season, but she says, “I am still excited to help the girls win EYL and playoffs.”Hernandez is most excited for her senior night. She says, “I have played with most of the seniors growing up, and I couldn’t be more proud to graduate with them.”

She also says, “I am so proud to be a 4 year varsity player, and also be able to play the next 4 years at CSU Bakersfield.”

Being a captain of this team is a huge honor to Hernandez. She says, “I love the work ethic, drive, and passion that this team has, and being able to take one of the roles as a captain is a big responsibility that I’m proud to carry.”

Ellie Gilbert, ’24, is another captain on the team. Gilbert says, “Being a captain is a lot of responsibility, but it’s a fun role to share with the other girls.”She also says, “Being seniors, it’s important for us to lead by example and that starts with having good and competitive training’s.”

Gilbert is most excited about the tournaments out of town. She says, “We usually go and do something as a team after the games so it’s usually fun.”

Being a captain to Gilbert means, “Being someone the girls can come to and look up to. I want to have a good time with the girls and make it a great season together as a whole.”

Paityn Bruce, ’24, is another one of the captains on the team. Bruce says, “It feels great to be a captain. I love all these girls and I know I have a big responsibility leading them and pushing them to be their best.”

Bruce says, “This year I plan on helping the team by making sure everyone is working hard in practices so that we can have the best outcome.”

Since Bruce didn’t get to play last year due to an injury, she is mainly excited to get back on the field.

Bruce also says, “Being a captain on girls soccer means responsibility to me. I have to lead by example and make sure our team gets the results we want.”

Bruce looks forward to, “Working with the other captains because they’re all great girls and we all have the same goal.”

Roxy Bahr, ’24, is a vice captain on the team. She says, “Being one of the captains for me is less about the title and more about the position.” She says, “With a lot of the newer girls on the team, I try to build connections with almost everybody, not only as a captain but as a friend.”

Bahr plans to strengthen the team’s relationship when playing on the field. She says, ”We have a lot of talent on the team but if we stay as individuals we won’t succeed.”

Bahr is mainly excited to see how far the team will go. She says, “We have high expectations, and with that comes a lot of pressure.”

Leah See, ’24, is the other vice-captain on the team. She says, “Being a captain for Girls Soccer is a great feeling knowing that I have such an amazing group of girls with me.” See also says, “I love helping the girls out and if they need something, they know they can ask or come to me.”

See is most excited to work with the other captains during the season. She says, “I’ve known these girls for so long and I know I can rely on any one of them.”

See finishes by saying, “I know this year’s set of captains will motivate and continue to push our team to be the best we can be.”
