The first half of the Redwood vs Liberty game went well with the score being 0-0, but the game ended 3-0 with Liberty taking the win.

Ellie Gilbert, ‘24, says, “If we didn’t get too frantic and remember how we could play possession-wise, then it definitely could’ve stayed a 0-0 game or a close win.”

#6 Roxana Bahr – Forward, Senior

Gilbert adds, “After the first goal, even though we still had 30 minutes left, you could definitely see a change in mindset which was hard.”

Gilbert says the emotions on the field were sad, “Everyone was crying and it’s upsetting knowing that it was our last game, especially for the seniors.”

As the season comes to a close, Gilbert says the team as a whole has improved on a lot, “We definitely got more comfortable with each other as the season went on and started playing as a team.”

Avery Yagle, ‘26, says, “After the final whistle blew, everyone was filled with emotions.” She adds, “It’s always a sad feeling when you lose in playoffs. We try to build everyone up after the game, but it’s always hard and it was very bittersweet.”

Yagle says Liberty was a strong, fast opponent which tired them. She says, “They were also very tall and had good defense, so playing the balls in the air wasn’t helping us.”

Overall, Yagle says that the team built up great chemistry throughout the season, helping them improve.

Alyssa Hernandez, ‘24, says, “We played our hearts out for each other and ourselves, but sadly we weren’t able to do enough doing that game to win.”

As the final whistle blew, Hernandez says, “It was sad as seniors knowing we ended our final game with a loss, but we fought hard and there’s only so much we can do.”

Hernandez says that each player began to show their talent and ability throughout the season. She says, “We worked hard all season and it definitely payed off.”

Hernandez says, “I am proud of how far Redwood Women’s Soccer has came these past years, and I’m excited to see what they do in the future.”
