Jill Nelsen, ’19, captain of the girls soccer team, is running for homecoming queen and is escorted by Hayden Hobbs, ’19. Yesterday, she was thrilled when she found out that she was in the top five. This has always been one of her goals, and she has strived to achieve it. Here is her in depth interview:

Q: How did you feel when you found out you were in the top five?

A: I was so shocked. It was cool to represent Redwood in the top five. It feels great.

Q: What does homecoming mean to you?

A: Homecoming is a memory and a tradition that you have in high school. It is something that lasts with you forever, and being a part of the top five makes it even greater.

Q: What would you like to tell younger students who aspire to be in your position?

A: I would tell them to be yourself. Make sure you include everybody. Make sure that you talk to everybody. Make sure that you lead as an example . Don’t try to be someone that you are not. Just have fun and be out there, and don’t be shy.

Q: What would you like people to know about you?

A: I play soccer. I’m super outgoing, and I like to have fun with everything that I do. I like to try new things. A lot of people don’t know that I am actually really down to earth and super honest with everything.

Q: How has your experience with girls soccer made you a better person?

A: It has made me the best leader. It has made me grow up and has made me realize my responsibilities. It has made me realize how to be a better example, and just think about everyone else before myself.

Q: What do you feel sets you apart from other candidates?

A: The girls are all so great. Everyone is different in their own way. I am really big on school spirit. I love Redwood with all my heart, and I don’t know what I would do without it.

Jill Nelsen has Ranger spirit, and is ready to be your next homecoming queen. You can vote for her on Friday and make sure to go to the Homecoming Game at 7:30 here in the Mineral King Bowl as our boys face Atascadero. At halftime the 2018 Homecoming Queen will be crowned!
