It has come that time again to vote for your homecoming queen. And here is a little insight on how voting actually works.

The top 5 includes Riki Gonzalez ‘20, Jada Griffith, Maya Ables ‘20, Abbie Linhares ‘20, and Leyla Lujan ‘20. The homecoming queen’s purpose is to represent Redwood and spread school spirit.

Mrs. Aston, the Activity Director, is in charge of the voting process, it is also her first year running ASB and the elections.

Only seniors are allowed to vote for the top 5 even though the form is open to all VUSD students. All the names of the nominees are put onto a google form, students then put in their I.D number and VUSD email to vote.

Once the voting is closed for the top 5, Mrs. Aston and Mrs. Aguilar, Redwood History teacher, run all of the senior I.D numbers through and the system kicks out anyone’s vote who is not a senior. The top 5 votes are then checked and triple checked. The top 5 are then announced at the rally.

When voting for the homecoming queen, the polls open Friday at 8 am and close at 3:30 pm. All Redwood Students can vote for the homecoming queen, it is not just limited to seniors.

It is the same process, students put in their I.D number and VUSD email, the five homecoming nominees will be listed and only one will take home the crown.

The same proofing process is repeated to ensure no fraud from other schools in the VUSD district. The announcement is done at the halftime show during the football game.
