CSF is a huge part of Redwood. Many of the students are a part of it and plan to be all four years of their high school experience. For those who don’t know, CSF stands for California Scholarship Federation. It is a community service club offered to all students who receive a 10 CSF points or more.
If you have the opportunity, you should make joining CSF one of your priorities. It looks great on college applications, and it allows you to feel amazing when you are able to give back to your community. Doing community service makes you feel good, while you are able to give back by helping others.
Rikki Gonzalez, ‘20, is the 2019-2020 CSF president for Redwood High School. She sees CSF as a club that “demands for academic excellence and encourages community service of all its members.” She highly encourages her peers to join that club because academics and community service are two key aspects of life a student should excel in. She believes the importance of CSF lies in its ability “to foster an academic culture on campus”. Gonzalez has been an active member of the club ever since her freshman year. She says that the club has allowed her to grow as a person and develop new skills that help her become a better and more successful student.
Taylor Hillan, ‘22, is an active member of CSF and has been since her freshman year. She feels that being in CSF is a great opportunity and an honor to be a part of. She finds herself “feeling accomplished” everytime she is able “to do community service” or “help others.” Being in this club has made her “a better person” and she has become “thankful for what she has.”
Olivia Eicher, ‘23, is a freshman who joined CSF because it was a great opportunity for her in the future. Eicher has a 4.0 gpa, and would recommend CSF to her peers. When asked specifically why she joined CSF she answered, “It wasn’t a very difficult choice. It’s gonna end up looking good when I graduate, so I decided to just do it.” Eicher hopes to be a lifetime CSF member.
Aya Aziz, ‘21, is a junior who is an officer in the California Scholarship Federation. She said that beyond the “assistance to your future” it’s a “good way to meet people.” Aziz would also recommend CSF for other students. Aziz spoke of CSF in an overwhelmingly positive regard, saying she was “glad to be an officer.”
The next large CSF event will be happening in the Kaweah reserves. In that event, members of CSF will participate in community service together. If you join CSF fast enough you can help the nearby community as well.
Many students are a part of CSF and you can be too! All you have to do is apply at the beginning of the fall semester and again after winter break. If you’d like more information talk to Mrs. Cheatwood in room 108.
