On Monday October 7, girls golf met at Hanford for their fourth league tournament, leading the league with three points ahead of second place. Due to another tournament, the girls played the back nine of Kings Country Club, a new side of the course they had not yet experienced.

Play was slow and the most difficult part was the distance of the holes. According to Sophie Wasem ’20, it was not easy getting par on the longer holes since they were so much farther than they were used to. “The course was really nice but a lot more difficult than Valley Oaks”. Wasem pulled through for the team with a 50. “We were not on our best game and we could have taken a few strokes away from the overall round.”

The team struggled throughout the round, but still made a statement on the course. Rylee Santiago ’22, the number one player on the team, had the lowest score of the day with a 40. “I’m just upset that we couldn’t win on this course.” The final outcome of the scores was Hanford with an overall 246 and Redwood finished with 247, losing to Hanford at their home course by just one stroke. “Just one stroke could have saved the team but we have to learn from it and hope we win next time.”

The girls still lead league with three points ahead of Hanford and Lemoore who are both tied for second place. The next tournament for the girls is on Thursday, October 10 at Valley Oak, their home course. The team expects to start their winning streak up again for the rest of the league.
