As of the year 2018-2019, Redwood High Schools girls wrestling team has made history by having their first parent booster club. The booster club was a choice made between a few parents.
So far there are four parents involved and they are hoping more of the wrestling parents come and join to help them out with their necessary needs. The only senior with a parent in the booster club is, Olivia Rosales ’19, her mother is the Vice President of the club. This next mom has her hands tied up with both of her daughters being apart of girls wrestling, these girls are Lynice Luna ’21 and Litzie Luna ’22, there mom is the club booster secretary. The president of the booster club happens to be the only father in the club. The secretary of the group is mother to one of our smallest but one of the most competetive girls.
The goal for the booster club is to help out with fundraising and giving the proper necessities that girls wrestling needs. If you did not know we have some on campus coaches for girls wrestling. Mr. Orosco, history teacher, knows more than just some history in a book he himself actually used to wrestle as well. Insert interview:
The other on campus coach is in the office right next to Mrs. Barbas room, it is none other than Mr. Cole the academic counselor. He himself wreslted in highschool and college. He also has a long line of coaching, you can say he is well experienced. We also can’t forget our off campus coaches who happen to be a father daughter duo. Coach Ramirez and his daughter Coach Rita also happen to be very well experienced. Coach Ramirez has yet to lose his spark since wrestling in high school.
If you have been participating in a different sport and have interest in coming out and showing interest talk to Mr. Orosco and he will help you figure things out. Remember the average GPA that is allowed to play a sport is a 2.0 but the girls strive for greatness and hope that you will too. There is 0 juniors on the team maybe some of you can change that.
