As of this year, all the VUSD schools provide each student with free lunch and breakfast at school. This was implemented just this year when families got letters from the district that all the students were going to be provided with these meals at school. This is a good thing for many who forget or don’t have the money to buy food every day. Students are now able to have the nutrition they need if they don’t have the ability to have it at home or don’t have time. This policy will benefit both students and families which will make a difference in the district.
Yadhira Garcia ‘21, said, “I heard the new free lunch policy from a good friend of mine. I enjoy free lunch because I don’t have to be hungry anymore and I can finally eating without worrying about having money. I first heard about the policy during a conversation with friends and a friend mentioned it. Free lunch is a benefit for me because I don’t always have money to go off campus. This policy benefits everyone because we don’t have to worry about money problems anymore.”
Melissa Luna ‘19, said, “I heard we had free lunch when I was filling out paperwork for round up. I’ve always had free lunch, so this year really made no difference. However, I’m glad that people who didn’t have the opportunity to eat a free lunch now can and people won’t be hungry anymore. I help everyone by giving them food, a little snack before class. People can worry about their classes now and not their empty stomachs.”
Mena Zamudio ‘22, said, “ I first heard about the free lunch policy when they sent a letter with all the information about the new school year. This benefits me because if I didn’t bring a lunch or didn’t bring money I could have some free lunch. This could benefit others if they can’t afford lunch or simply forget their lunch one day.”
Taya Bueno ‘19, said, “ I heard about the free lunch policy from my teacher. I enjoy the yogurt mostly about the free lunch. The first time I heard about the policy was last week. Specifically, I heard about this policy in class when people were complaining they were hungry and had no money. This policy benefits me because if I were to forget my money for lunch I can get free lunch. This benefits everyone because people who can’t go off campus can get free lunch if they are hungry.”
Having breakfast and lunch for free at school is a big deal. Students are now able to eat without exception of money. The policy is going to make a big difference and we can’t wait to see the happy, healthy faces of our Rangers around campus.
