The 2019-2020 girls’ soccer season has been one of triumph and accomplishments. These girls started the season around November, looking forward to a good season.

The girls started their season in November against Monache High School in Porterville. Their league season wrapped up their season this week, playing their Senior Night game against El Diamante.

Ashley Todd ’21 a multi-sport athlete reflects on her challenges starting the year off. As a waterpolo player, Todd, “Had to work hard at practices and run on the treadmill at home,” to catch up to the level of fitness everyone else was at.

Through the season, these girls worked their tails off, from the back into pre-season which started around late September, and now the girls are looking forward to going to play for the Valley Title.

Coach Vieira remembers this season as “one of the most successful seasons in school history.” This season’s record was 18-3-2, which is very good in comparison to past seasons.

Redwood prides itself on being one of the best schools in the Visalia area, and this years Varsity Soccer team finished their season 10-0, securing the WYL title for the ninth year in a row.

Payton Basso ’20, played this year, her last year on the varsity team. She says that “the Hanford game, away,” is usually “the hardest game.” Basso has put time and effort into her soccer career, her sohpmore year she “broke her ankle” playing the off season, but she didn’t let that stop her from the sport she loves.

Overall this season was a year of tremendous success, “the class of 2020 is a special group of kids that really represent what Redwood is all about” Vieira remarks.

The girls played Clovis High Friday night and lost 2-0 to finish out their season.
