Every year during the holiday season families gather around their tables to celebrate and participate in the season’s festivities. This year, Ham or Turkey is up for debate.

The cooks of the household have to prepare hours or even days ahead of the planned meal. Both Turkey and Ham take many hours to prepare and cook. Some recipes can be passed down from generation to generation. Many popular recipes are found off of trusted websites like foodnetwork.com

The recipe for Grilled Holiday Honey Ham takes around 12 hours from start to finish. You first start off prepping the Ham by trimming off the fat then glazing and seasoning it and finally putting it in the oven. Some people also might add pineapple with a maraschino cherry in the center for extra flavor.

One very traditional Christmas dish is Mom’s Holiday Turkey. The holiday Turkey takes a whopping eleven hours for the entire process despite there being around eight hours where the Turkey is resting and getting marinaded. First the Turkey must be carefully washed, then it is seasoned, and next put in the oven and cooked for about 15 minuets per pound at 325 degrees.

In comparison, these two meals, are commonly eaten at the dinner table both having similar prep and cooking times.

In these busy times, many people want to spend time with family. Depending on how some families bond, one family may choose spend their hours of cooking with each other. Maybe a family is not as cooking oriented, so they would chose to make the shorter meal.

These differences in Holiday Meals, cook time and all provide for a very nice variety at the dinner table. Cooking together can be an opportunity to grow in relationships.

What ever your family chooses, there will always be bonding around the dinner table.
