On August 14th 2026, Redwood High School’s Associated Student Body, ASB, held its annual Icebreaker rally for the ‘26-’27 school year. ASB officials discuss the legacy and importance of the icebreaker rally.

Ava Dodson

With this year’s theme being construction and building the blueprint, Ava Dodson ‘28 says that “Our goal was to let everyone know that everyone leaves their own legacy, every single student, staff member, teacher, everyone leaves a legacy at Redwood’s campus, and is part of building this amazing school that we have.”

The theme also represented the lasting impact students can have at Redwood. Dodson also said, “And you leave Redwood knowing you left your mark, which was our biggest thing with the whole building the blueprint idea.”

With the push to leave a mark at Redwood, rangers were able to bring the theme to life through the activities and games at the rally.

On August 14th Redwood High-school has their Ice breaker rally inside their gym.

Developing the theme took quite a bit of time, though. Adrian Lopez-Guzman ‘27 says ASB “had about a month and a half to work” on the rally, including giving up parts of summer vacation to make sure everything ran smoothly.

The hard work paid off, though, as Lopez-Guzman says that ASB got “a lot of positive feedback” for the rally. One thing Lopez-Guzman felt helped was crowd engagement, saying that they “really focused on crowd engagement” at this rally, “via games… little talks.”

Xavier Legaspi

The fall semester is filled with school events. Lopez-Guzman says that “the first rally is like a viewing point” for the rest of the school year. It sets “the standard of what [they’re] looking for in energy in people.”

Xavier Legaspi ‘27, the Vice President of ASB, says that the game that encouraged students to participate the most was “the raft game”. Legaspi says that most liked it, “because they didn’t have to volunteer because everyone was doing it at the same time.”

When it comes to engagement, Legaspi wants to continue all of the games for Cowhide and Homecoming too, “keep that energy going”. He said that sometimes, “people didn’t want to volunteer,” and just focused on adapting to encourage people to volunteer.

Overall, Legaspi is very excited to see how ASB can keep the energy throughout the school year, especially for all the new students.
