Each year, Link Crew organizes a haunted house as an engaging way to celebrate Halloween. This year’s theme is “The Unknown”.

As Halloween approaches, Link Crew will host its annual haunted house in the girls’ locker room on October 22nd at 7:00 pm. However, the behind-the-scenes efforts to put together the house often remain unnoticed.

Most of what we tend to see is the finished product of Link Crew’s hard work. So, let’s dig a little deeper.

In early September, Link Crew begins building the theme for this year’s haunted house. The meaning of this year’s theme is to keep you guessing about what will happen next.

After they get their theme down, Zoe Schugardt, ’27, Link Crew’s president, figures out what each section of the haunted house will be like.

Zoe Schugardt is a key part of the overall preparation and result that comes with it.

Schugardt said, “I’m in charge of constructing the theme, what the sections will be like, who’s going to work in each section, the decorations, and other things alike.”

After the decorations and props are all thought out, Link Crew starts to buy and build their own decorations and props on their own.

“Most of it, we’re using cardboard, paint, paper; a lot of it is handmade posters. So a lot of cutting and gluing, things like that,” Schugardt said.

Although the hard work and creativity behind the scenes set the stage, what actually awaits inside remains a closely guarded secret. The only way to discover what The Unknown has in store is to step through its doors yourself.

And when you’re done with the haunted house in the girls’ locker room, the gym will be open and playing a Halloween movie.

There will also be snacks and drinks available for purchase.

But you do have some rules you need to follow going through the haunted house:  No running, no touching the actors, and no video or photography allowed.

“We allow anyone who’s in the line, as long as they’re being appropriate and following school rules, to enter the haunted house,” said Mrs. Braun, the Link Crew advisor.
