The boys on the 4×400 team pulled out a win for WYL. Although they were the underdogs of the season, they proved everyone wrong.

Andres Gutiérrez ‘24 says, “We’ve accomplished the respect from other schools. They were downing us the whole season, even staff members. We ended up undefeated 5-0.” The attitude from the team allowed them to push through the season, even when they weren’t predicted to do well.

Similarly to the girls 4×400 team, there had not been a set team from the beginning of the season. They had to switch people around to accommodate other events. Gutiérrez says, “Our biggest challenge as a team was finding one. At the beginning of the season we only had three people and we were borrowing people from other events. The team we have now is incredibly good: three sophomores and a freshman.”

The boys accomplished many goals throughout the season. Aj Garza ‘24 says, “We’ve accomplished a new personal record, and each kid has been progressing at meets and trying to beat their last times.”

The 4×400 team had tough competitors this school year. Dallas Harris ‘24 says,  “It was El Diamante and Golden West. We were neck and neck with them.” Braedon Dean ‘25 also agrees with Harris about El Diamante being their toughest competitor.

DEspite competition, the boys were able to pull out a win. Gutiérrez ‘24 says, “They had us as underdogs in WYL, but we managed to beat them by .28 milliseconds.” This was great for the team, and they ended up moving onto area.

Garza says, “I hope to achieve another Valley Championship. I know the team has put a lot of effort and dedication into track and we just don’t want to leave empty handed!”
