On Wednesday, August 25th, 2021 Redwood High School hosted its annual Club Day featuring new and returning clubs.
Kyla Seitz, ’22, the president of the Gay Straight Alliance (GSA) club, says that their club has been “running for a while, but last year [they] started consistently meeting,” and now they are striving to “meet every week.” The GSA club’s goal is to help “offer a safe space for LGBT youth.” Seitz’s reasoning behind this is because many kids don’t really have a place to go after school, so instead they can create a safe environment at lunch.
Joaquin Gonzalez, ‘23 says that the “Multi Cultural Appreciation (MCA) club is learning about other people’s cultures and ethnicities.” While the club is to help spread the knowledge of cultures to others, it is also a club for amusement and enjoyment.
Gonzalez says they will incorporate fun into the club by hosting activities to help share people’s personal traditions from their different cultures. He adds that the MCA club “will hold potlucks that allow people to bring cultural foods, and share the significance of the food.”
The Fashion club president, Katie Hornburg, ’22 says “the Fashion club is mainly about getting people interested in fashion and help figure out how [others] want to style themselves.”
Not only is the Fashion club for enjoyment purposes, but it is also for people who want to pursue a job in the fashion field. Members can further their knowledge and resume with the help of the program that supports the club. When asked about the program, Hornburg stated that, “the club is run through the college FIDM which stands for ‘Fashion Institution of Design and Marketing.’”
Adam Hacker, ‘24 is a relatively new student at Redwood High School and he seems to be interested in the clubs here on campus. Hacker had joined FBLA his freshman year, and says he found enjoyment “in the large variety of competitions [they] compete in.” He talks about how they participated in a range from “healthcare to video game” based activities.
Thomas Plummer, ’25 is a freshman and is excited for his first Club Day at Redwood High School. Plummer states that he is interested in Sign Language club because he enjoys ASL class and would like to “expand on that.” He has also shown interest in Key club and CSF to “get extra credit and help his college resume by being more involved.”
Regardless if you missed Club Day or not, clubs are still open to everyone, and students who are interested are welcomed with open arms.
