On Friday, October 30th, the Redwoods ASB crew set up the final pieces for its Cowhide carnival during the extended lunch period to celebrate the school’s 71st Cowhide.
Mr. Siqueiros, the ASB teacher, said that “We’ve had two or three weeks to work on our carnival project.”
Redwood’s ASB carnival crew team spent most of the month setting up and preparing for the carnival for cowhide.
ASB’s carnival team is Mr. Siqueiros’ third-period ASB class.
“Third period. They’re the ones that come up with the events, the lunch vendors that will be there for the carnival, and what will happen, like, during the carnival.” Mr. Siqueiros said.
Just about all games were created by the ASB carnival committee.
As the carnival unfolded, many students were seen with a smile on their faces and enjoying the extended lunch period.
“It was so positively friendly, and everyone was just so kind in that community,” Michelle Rodriguez, ‘30, says about the atmosphere at the carnival for cowhide.
People at the cowhide carnival could be seen enjoying the many food vendors that were there to celebrate cowhide along with the student body.
Local vendors played a significant role in bringing the carnival to life, providing the students with a variety of food options to have during the lunch period.
A new addition this year was Dutch Bros, which was giving out free drinks to the students.
Aubrey Day said that, “Probably having Dutch Bros here for the first time” was her favorite part of the carnival.
Events like this are made to foster a sense of community with the students at Redwood. But also to get them hyped for an upcoming event if there is one.
In this case, it was the football game against Mt. Whitney and Redwood.
The carnival helped build up the excitement for that 71-year rivalry game between the two schools.
According to Aubrey Day, events like the Cowhide Carnival impact the student body by, “Making people more excited for, like, the events that we have going on, and I feel like it gets the freshmen more immersed into the school.”
The Cowhide Carnival provided a vibrant atmosphere for the student body. Making them feel hyped for the upcoming game that night, but also included in the school spirit.
By engaging with the students, especially the freshmen, with events like this, it can bring a sense of community and belonging, with excitement around school activities.
As students enjoyed the food and games, it was clear that the students couldn’t wait for that game that night.
Events like the cowhide carnival are essential in creating bonds within our school community and ensuring that all students feel the Redwood experience.
