Students who auditioned for Little Shop of Horrors share their excitement and nerves as rehearsals begin and the play kicks into high gear.

Little Shop of Horrors began as a quick two-day movie, then became a hit Broadway musical and a high-budget 1986 film adaptation, and Redwood is bringing it to us.

Little Shop of Horrors follows a meek floral assistant who discovers an unusual plant that promises fame and success in exchange for human blood. As the plant grows more demanding and dangerous, Seymour spirals into murder before a tragic climax in which the carnivorous plant attempts world domination.

This play is absolutely perfect for the spooky season! And though everyone is excited to see the play, the students who auditioned are super excited and very supportive of each other.

Luca Santana ’27 said, “In the case that I don’t get in, I am looking forward to seeing the play and seeing how well the other actors did in it.”

“Feed me!” is the plant’s demand, and our drama is ready to feed us with its talent. When the stage lights hit the costumes, and the sets are made to be of the utmost perfection, the students’ beautiful singing, amazing dancing, and their stage presence when speaking their lines, it doesn’t start that way.

Rehearsals for hours after school, late-night dinners at fast-food restaurants, even a past-midnight trip to Denny’s with friends and family — Drama Works very hard in many rehearsals to perfect, then perfect the perfection, to make the show stage-ready.

“Insight from my cousin and late-night Denny’s — that’s what I am most excited for,” said Irelynn Lowery ’30

Not only are they excited about what would happen after rehearsals, but also about the play. This is a very exciting play and also very entertaining. The nerves have finally settled since the cast list has come out, but before, many were scared of getting a part with no lines or even getting cut.

But in the end, it is all worth it when you get to see the final results and the actors get to shine on the stage.

Actor of the character Wino, Clark Herrema ’30, said when asked what he was most looking forward to, “The show’s because there’s always fun. You have the anticipation, and it is the end, so it’s like the final stretch, and it’s always fun.”

Just like Clark, we all can’t wait for the show to see just how well the actors have done.
