ASB preparation for the 26-27 Cowhide and how they stay busy during Cowhide Week
By: Brisa Magana
The ASB team at Redwood High School prepares for the biggest football game of the season against the Maroon School across the street.
Pete Siqueiros is the ASB teacher at Redwood High School. He manages most of the events that occur, like the Harvest Dance, Winter Formal, Taylor’s Hot Dogs, lunch events, Rally themes, etc. This year, Siqueiros and his ASB team are getting prepared for Cowhide and bringing the brightest spirit.

Siqueiros says ¨We are pretty pumped for Cowhide, knowing that this is 71 years of Cowhide, so knowing how important it is for the ranger community, 71 years has brought our students and staff and community together.”
The ASB team prepares for Cowhide with many decorations around campus: cow print balloons, streamers on the stair railings, the bridge being decorated, door decorating contests, over 1,200 cow spots, over 50 posters around campus, the spirit lane has been repainted, and a carnival during lunch on Cowhide Day.
Sofi Zambada is a Redwood student and is apart of the Asb team and shares how the hard work pays off, ¨We try and keep cowhide in its tradition there is not really a specific theme expect just being a big blue out and cow print because that´s the main tradition for our school so our posters we create and put up around campus and at the Cowhide game are encouraging and they are also spirited to include our students and our community not just surrounded on our football team¨
The ASB team puts in so much time and dedication leading up to Cowhide Day; they get everything put together, starting from the pumped rally that will be hosted Friday morning of Cowhide Day during 3rd period, and they make sure to include their sparkly personalities and show all out for their games they play in between to get the crowd excited.
Cathy Jaurrieta ¨ I think I put in the most time I could possibly give. I would work on my props and decor every minute during class; I would also stay after school for a few hours to make sure our stuff gets done.”
Asb has a lot on their plate to get ready for the big day, ¨This week has been pretty caotic there is still alot of responsibilites that need to be completed from our class, alot of events that we have covered that we had to be apart of its just alot, last month going back to homecoming it was alot so we are still on a roll¨ says Siqueiros.
The ASB team needs a lot of materials to create decorations with many ideas, and with a big team, they definitely have a budget.
Siqueiros says ¨ Cowhide is our most expensive spirit week and is the spirit week we spend the most money on. Our student body is the person who provides the funds for our materials, for example, like our ASB stickers we sell at the beginning of the year to our winter formal tickets, spring fling, prom, and our harvest dance, which is our 4 ways students contribute to our campus¨
ASB gives themselves a few weeks in advance to start preparing for cowhide so they make sure everything is under control and things aren´t rushed ¨ We started preparing right after homecoming when it comes to the events, campus decor, bold decor; there have been multiple ideas that were talked about earlier in the school year, and now we are actually living in it with the whole preparation¨.
The Gates opened up at 5:00 pm on Friday, October 30th for the biggest rival against Redwood High School V. the Red School across the street. Come on and enjoy the Cowhide 26-27 Football game with lots of pumped spirit, along with seeing the amazing decorations Redwood ASB Rangers have created with much love, time, and dedication.
Siqueiros says ¨ We are on the visitor side this year, so it’s going to look like a big party on the North Side ¨
