Recently we had the opportunity to check in with the Boys Varsity Soccer team. This season, the team has worked hard and improved their game starting with every practice. Despite some injuries throughout the season, the team has accomplished many wins being 10-9-1. Currently they are ranked in 4th WYL and 7th in DII Central Section but there is still the second half of league that could change things up.
The varsity team had a rough start to the season, but has improved over time. Cade Batchman, ’19, said, “We have our moments. We do really good.”According to Batchman, this team is one of the best teams in the Valley. He believes the team has tried their best and worked hard to achieve greatness.
Nolan Pritchett, ‘21, is the varsity goalie. He believes that , “Confidence is key as a goalkeeper…making stops, running the field, and having leadership.” Pritchett carries confidence with him, as he plays his heart out in each game.
Max Dwelle, ‘22, was brought up from JV to Varsity as a freshman because the coach really liked his work ethic at practice and in the games. He said, “It was pretty cool to be brought up. I wasn’t expecting it.” He feels that the team did pretty well this season although they have made a few mistakes that resulted in the losses.
As the team begins to near the end of their season, they have looked back and realized that this was an accomplished season. They have played to their full potential and are ready to finish off the season strong.
If you want to see boys soccer in action, the next game is today, January 23rd, at Lemoore High School where they play the 2nd ranked Lemoore Tiger. They will also play on Friday, January 25th, at home against the 3rd ranked team, Golden West.
