Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), is the oldest club on campus. FBLA has been a part of Redwood High School since 1959.
FBLA is a part of Redwood’s culture and legacy.
The club has surely made a name for themselves by being one of the largest clubs on campus. Having about 150 kids per year, FBLA advisor Mr. Avila says.
Avila says all the students within the club receive many benefits for the future, such as advancements on college applications and leadership experience.
Nahir Karimi ‘22 is the President of FBLA. He has many responsibilities in his current role, Karimi says, “I oversee the whole chapter [and] I also help prepare the chapter meetings, officer meetings, section conferences, run the website, and help run the social media.”
Karimi has many hopes for himself as president this year, he says he plans to be, “organized, confident, and be a team player.”
Since Covid-19 sent schools virtual in March of 2019, FBLA went virtual. The club’s community struggled but since coming back became much better because, “…it is more inclusive, engaging, and fun being around peers and friends” Karimi says.
Nahir Karimi encourages students to join FBLA and their community. “It is a great opportunity to join FBLA because it is a part of the Redwood culture and tradition, competing is always fun, we always have pizza at our meetings, and it looks great on college applications as well.”
Vice President of Activities, Donya Akhavon ‘23 and Secretary/Treasurer Jessica Lam ‘23 both say that they earned their position by having a sit down interview with Mr. Avila. It was like having a job interview.
Akhavon says her role contains “being helpful when the President isn’t able to make it to a meeting.” She “helps out” where help is needed.
“Having all the students feel welcomed and comfortable” is one of the main goals Ackavon has for this year. As a given factor, Akhavon says she “wants everyone to place” and “win 1st in state”
It is Jessica Lam’s first year having the role of secretary/treasurer. She says that she feels very involved and she wants to do her best to get others involved as well.
Lam’s responsibilities also include taking notes during meetings to use in future meetings and competitions.
Lam says her goals for FBLA this upcoming school year are, “…to get more people involved with the club and actually participate in competitions we have and bring back our Redwood legacy”.
Goals within FBLA include winning the valley title for the 9th year in a row and getting top 5 in state.
