Since school has been online due to COVID, advisory is another requirement for students to take. Teacher Michelle Avila has her own advisory class and gives students awareness for classes they may be behind on along with telling students about recent school updates.

Advisory is a class required to keep students on track so they’ll walk the line when it’s time to graduate. It’s an additional period which may give students a reminder to attend certain classes students may struggle in.

“A way to check in with students to make sure they are ok, to take roll and collect ADA  money to run our school, and share out any news or activities going on.”

– Mrs. Avila

Advisory class strives to help students improve in school due to in-person learning not being an option. Everyone may have their own struggles in school, and advisory is there to help students.

Mrs. Avila believes Advisory benefits students and Redwood High School due to the inability to learn in school directly.

Advisory student, Chris Peralta, ‘21 is an athlete who currently works a minimum wage job. He believes that advisory keeps students aware of classes that may offer assistance.

“It helps me be more prioritized with the work I’m doing.”

Students who are working a part-time job or even athletes who may be struggling with school may see advisory as an opportunity to question themselves on their performance in the online classroom.

Advisory class tends to give students tabs on their whereabouts in school performance for teachers who may have not yet notified students.

I am a student Tommy Echevarria, writing down sports events may be hard during this time, but managing with what'll be happening in sports events ignites a spark of joy at Redwood Highschool.
