At their second home game of the season, Redwood Varsity Girls Volleyball defeats Sanger.

Alipaz credits the win to teamwork, “Because if you play as individuals, the sport doesn’t work out, so you have to work together as a team to win the game.”

Redwood took home a score of 3 – 1. In this non-conference game, there were four sets.

Grace Alipaz ’25 says, “That’s the whole point, you have to be able to work together as a team.”

When asked how this win felt, Alipaz says, “It felt really good, it felt like another win that we just got through. Even with the struggles that we had, we still pulled out with the win.”

Kennedy Cutler 24’ is a captain on the team. She elaborated on some struggles of the game. She says, “We were having fun, but we weren’t completely focused on the game, so we were causing us to make more errors and that was getting them more points.”

Being a captain, Cutler has a lot of responsibility on her shoulders. She says, “I would say I’m like a mentor for the younger ones. I always try to be super supportive to them and be a leader on and off the court. I want them to know that I can always be there for them, even if I’m not having the best game, they can still always come to me.”

Cutler shares how she hopes to improve next game, she says, “When we’re struggling we can talk to each other and give each other good advice and take that advice and put it on to the court and we can definitely train harder at practice so we can like improve in those harder games and when we’re playing lower teams, we can just hammer them.”

Hazel Green ‘24, adds that it’s not just about the physical abilities when it comes to volleyball. She says, “Then there’s also the mental game, say I made a mistake, I still need to bring extra effort to make sure I can keep clean throughout the entirety of the game.”

Green finishes with this year’s expectation for Redwood’s Varsity Volleyball. She says, “I feel like we have a really strong team and we’re in unison with each other and we build off each other’s energy. So definitely winning the league is a big thing for us, and hopefully going into the playoffs, then maybe even ending up doing well again like last year.”
