The girls on the varsity volleyball team won against Mission Oak and Monache, fresh out of quarantine! On Wednesday, September 1st, the ladies played Mission Oak, and on Thursday, September 2nd, they played Monache.
Just a couple of weeks ago, volleyball at Redwood had to take a short break due to exposures from COVID-19. Despite the girls previously being in quarantine, this did not hinder their ability to beat their opponents. They won all three sets in their back to back games.
Many sports had not played at all during the shut down, including volleyball.
Cutler was unable to experience a season last year because of COVID regulations, so these first two games were thrilling for her.
Although wearing masks isn’t ideal, the girls are staying positive when it comes to their safety. “It’s definitely tiring and I don’t like it, but we have to,” says Audrey Hyde, ‘24, as she gives her perspective on having to wear masks while playing.
Cutler and Hyde similarly keep a positive attitude with the situation for volleyball. Cutler says, “It sucks wearing them, but as long as we can play I’m fine. It’s not terrible, but you can’t show any expression, and it’s a lot easier to talk to your players or to anyone without it.” Although it’s not always easy, the girls want to continue playing, regardless of having to wear a mask or not.
The varsity volleyball team is excited to represent Redwood this year!
