On Friday February 25, Redwood’s Link Crew hosted a luncheon for the top 100 freshmen with the highest grades. It was hosted in the quad at lunchtime and catered by Amigos restaurant.

The freshmen that were selected to participate had a cumulative GPA of a 4.0 and were the top 100 students of their class.

Link Crew set up tables for the students to sit at after receiving their food as well as provided a game of corn hole and played music. Being able to provide a reward for the top 100 freshmen shows that their accomplishments don’t go unnoticed especially after coming back from a virtual year.

After being asked if it was hard maintaining a 4.0 GPA, freshman Tomas Caffarle says, “It sure was; I was juggling my grades when I would get a B up to an A, another A would drop into a B.” It’s not easy maintaining a 4.0 GPA especially because one assignment could drop it in a whole.

When asked what they do to maintain their good grades and position in the top of their class, the freshmen explained that it is all about discipline and perseverance. They get work done as soon as possible and do not allow it to pile up or put it off. The freshmen also explained that they try very hard to balance their time between school and outside activities.

Freshman Emily Brennan says, “I just have a mindset to do my work before doing other stuff.” Self-discipline is something that you have to have a set mindset for and stay on top of, which leads to great accomplishments even if it isn’t easy with a ‘normal’ high school life. Knowing your priorities and getting your school work done first before other things may not seem as the most appealing thing to do, but it definitely is the better choice to make.

Being able to host this luncheon for the freshman shows that their progress and accomplishments don’t go unnoticed by Redwood and encourages them to continue down this path towards academic excellence.
