Redwood’s annual Mr. Ranger Week kicked off on Monday, March 21, but with a twist this year. Not only will there be a Mr. Ranger, but there will also be a Mrs. Ranger included.

This week’s dress-up days included, Monday: “Country vs Country Club”, Tuesday: “Adam Sandler “, Wednesday: “Camo”, Thursday: class colors which includes freshman- pink, sophomores- yellow, juniors-green, and seniors- purple.

Not only does this week consist of dress-up days, but there also were lunch-time activities each day in the quad where all the nominees competed against each other.

Dressing up in “Country Club” attire, Cheyenne Lopez, ’22 says, “I chose the ‘country club’ option because in the past when we have this dress-up day, I’ve always chose ‘country’… But since it’s my senior year and possibly last dress-up week, I thought I’d try something different.”

Considering that this may or may not be the last dress-up week of the year, it definitely puts into perspective, especially for seniors, that it’s time to switch it up and go all-out.

For Monday’s lunch-time activity, there was a competition between the lady and men nominees to drench one another in colored water.

Nominee, Kailynn Rios, ’22 says, “It was very competitive and both teams were super determined to win, but the girls took the win in the end.”

Tuesday’s dress-up day was to dress up as Adam Sandler. Many Rangers around campus wore baggy clothes and colors that contrasted each other.

“I loved this day, it was different from the previous dress-up days we have had and it was nice to be able to wear baggy, comfortable clothes,” says Daniela Palma, ’23.

Palma also adds, “It was great to see everyone’s creative take on the dress-up day and all the different outfits that were recreated.”

For Tuesday’s activity, the nominees had a race to see who could finish the minute-to-win-it challenge.

The challenges included, the oreo challenge, corn hole, and pie face.

As for Wednesday’s dress-up day it was camouflage day. Many students participated and came decked out in all their camo gear.

Top 5 Mrs. Ranger nominee, Paola Ramirez, ’22, has been very involved with Ranger Week. Since she is a nominee, she competes in the lunch-time activities every day at lunch. Ramirez says, “The lunch-time activities have been a lot more fun than I initially expected.”

Ramirez was nominated by Dance Force and said, “It is such an honor to be a top five nominee because it’s great to know the [Dance Force] girls think highly enough of me to nominate me.”

Ranger Week is a great way for students to get involved and participate in the spirit days. When asked what she likes most about Ranger Week, Ramirez says, “It’s another chance for students to show school spirit.”

All of the students have been very spirited with the dress-up days. Ramirez says her favorite dress-up day, “definitely had to be the ‘Adam Sandler’ dress-up day.”

Ramirez adds, “It was really fun to see all the different outfits and I was comfortable the whole day wearing my ‘Adam Sandler’ outfit.”

The dress-up day for Thursday was class colors, so depending on the grade of the student, it determined the color that they wore.

The school was filled with the colors pink, yellow, green, and purple.

As for the lunch-time activity on Thursday, the nominees participated in a QR code race. The Top 5 nominees were paired up and had to race around campus finding QR codes posted at certain Redwood buildings. They were required to take a picture in front of each one and then each time, they scanned a QR code they were given a riddle in order to figure out the next location.

Lastly, for Friday, was “Best Ranger Fashion” meaning that students wore all of their Redwood gear.

Senior Jezarai Allen says, “It feels good to see everyone back in their Ranger gear, I miss it and even though it isn’t football season, it’s nice to see everyone show their spirit.”

There was no lunch-time activity for Friday because of the assembly which concluded the winners of Mrs. and Mr. Ranger of the 2022 school year.

During the assembly, the nominees showed their talents, danced, and explained what Redwood meant to them.

Congratulations to the first Mrs. Ranger in Redwood history, Kiley Langford ’22 and Mr. Ranger Nahir Karimi, ’22.
