Behind the scenes of the fall play, the cast has been attending long practices, learning from mistakes, and spending time to shape an entertaining play.
Preparing for a play takes more than one would think. Kelsey Myers 21’ said “ It honestly depends- it could take a month or even up until after load in. I think it depends on the cast and the show”.
The cast of “Up The Down Staircase” have as many practices before opening night. Cade Gann 21’ says “ This year it’s taken about 6 or 7 weeks and we have up to 30 practices.¨
Because of busy schedules, balancing school, work, and rehearsal can be challenging. Gann said “We practiced on Monday and Thursday, then two weeks before the play we practice everyday.”
“Staircase” does not take from the cast’s school time. The rehearsals go from 6 to 8:30 every night of the week. During rehearsal time they have to memorize many lines and that is one of the biggest challenges for the cast,
Myers said ” If you have a lead especially with only so many rehearsals the biggest challenge would be memorizing lines”. Gann says” The most challenging part would be getting people together and then memorizing.”
Myers says “The show has taken lots of time perfecting it and everyone working hard together it is an amazing play definitely one to remember.”
“Up The Down Staircase” premieres on October 9th at 7pm. It runs on October 10th at 7pm and again on October 12th for a 2pm matinee and a 7pm evening show in the Rotary Theater on Sierra Vista’s Campus.
